The WCIT swimming academy programme surrounds a scheme of 8 progressive awards designed to build water confidence, water safety skills and stroke development for pupils aged between 5-11 years old. This learning programme is based on the British Physical Education curriculum.

Our main aim is for every child to be safe and confident in the water and to demonstrate at least one recognized stroke technique, with the ability to swim 25m unassisted to a high standard. The detailed criteria for all award elements will need to be completed to achieve the rewards.

Each child’s development and speed of learning is different, however in roughly two terms, your child can advance to the next progressive level.

Swimming Basic starts from the most rudimentary stage (level 1) on the progressive awards scheme and runs until level 4, where children start to become self-confident in the water and have learned several different swimming skills.

The intermediate class is for children that are familiar with basic swimming techniques and want to improve their levels as well as their style of swimming (level 4 to 6).
